Luis is a senior studying journalism, international studies and legal studies. Currently, he is interning at the Spanish newspaper Hoy as a metro reporter. Last winter he was in Buenos Aires working as a politics writer for The Bubble. On campus, he works for Northwestern University Media Relations as a newsroom aide. Mariana is a  junior at Northwestern, studying journalism and history of the Americas. An international student from El Salvador and Mexico, Mariana currently works as the web editor and diversity and inclusion reporter for The Daily Northwestern, NU’s and Evanston’s only daily news source. In the past, she has reported on immigration for the Medill News Service in Washington D.C. and for La Prensa Gráfica in San Salvador, El Salvador. David Gernon is currently a junior studying journalism and economics. This year, he will be working in Washington, DC with Medill on the Hill in the fall and he will be doing his Journalism Residency in South Africa in the spring. Some of David’s favorite news sources include the Economist, Quartz and Bloomberg. Outside of class, David enjoys watching sports and reading. Natalie is a junior at Northwestern University, studying journalism and Latino Studies. When she’s on campus, she works on several ends of the student news magazine North by Northwestern, as the senior section editor and former photo director for the print edition and a reporter/photographer for the web edition. Recently, Natalie reported on education from the Hill for the Medill News Service in Washington. The only thing Alex loves more than arepas is good quality journalism. In his free time, Alex enjoys going to Pilsen for tacos and exploring Chicago’s amazing neighborhoods. He is most proud of his enterprise story on slam poetry in Chicago in which he ran around the city tracking down Young Chicago Authors Artistic Director Kevin Coval for an interview. Feel free to hit him up for the best Latin music playlist ever created. You won’t regret it.

Alani is a native to Chicago with a passion for women’s rights, journalism and coffee. She is a junior at Medill, double majoring in journalism and history; she is in the magazine track. Vargas is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus Northwestern and was a feature writer for Her Campus National this fall. She is also currently a columnist for The Daily Northwestern and was an audio team member last sprint for the newspaper as well, contributing to weekly podcasts. Sarahmaria Gomez is the faculty adviser for NAHJNU. She teaches classes in multimedia and video journalism, directs Medill Media Teens and teaches broadcast, video and technology classes at the Medill-Northwestern Journalism Institute during the summer.
Sarahmaria is originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was a student member of NAHJ when she was an undergraduate. One of her fondest college memories was working as a broadcast reporter for the UNITY student projects.
